Humulus japonicus: Japanese hop
Plant Identification:
- Growth form: herbaceous annual, twining, shallow rooted-vine climbing to heights of 10 feet or more
- Leaf: rough textured, paired, simple, palmate with 5-7 lobes and toothed leaf margins
- Flowers: occur in July/August. Male flowers are small, greensih-yellow and occur in branched panicles. Femaile flowers are pale green, plump, drooping, cone-like structures with overlapping scales that become hops
- Seeds: covered in yellow glands, and are 1/8 inch in diameter, roundish with a blunt tip, and are light brown with darker specks
