Plant Identification: 

  • Growth form: deciduous small tree or coarse shrub growing up to 6 m
  • Leaf: dark green, shiny above and glabrous beneath, short oblong to obovate leaves 3-7 cm long arranged alternately.
  • Flower: yellow-green flowers arranged in 1-8 flowered sessile, glabrous umbels. Flowers after the leaves expand between May and September
  • Fruit: globose drupes typically .6 cm in size, changing from red to black
