Cytisus scoparius: Scotch broom

Plant Identification:

  • Growth form: perennial shrub
  • Leaf: compound, alternate and simple
  • Flower: typically bright yellow (cultivars range from pale yellow to pink to red);2-2.5cm in length; bloom in late May or June
  • Fruit: brownish pods (legumes); ripen in late summer
  • Seeds: small, 2mm; multicolored (green, brown, dark brown, rusty); round to obovate shape
